Toyota Tundra Buying Guide

You’re in the market for a truck, you’ve heard all about Toyota’s great vehicles, and now you’re intrigued. Where do you go from here?

Well, give some thought to the Toyota Tundra, a truck with a big, roomy interior and what Car and Driver magazine calls a “sweet-sounding, top-spec V-8” engine. J. D. Power and Associates has rated the Tundra the “Most Dependable Large Pickup” for six years in a row. The Tundra double-cab is an IIHS 2012 Top Safety Pick, and Tundra ranks higher on Cars.com’s 2011 American-Made Index than any other truck.

Are you saying I’m sold? Great! Let’s get started. First choose your size: regular cab, double cab, or the CrewMax, with a slide-and-recline rear seat. You’ve got engine options too: the Tundra comes standard with a 4.6-liter V8, but there’s also a 4.0-liter V6 or one of two 5.7-liter V8s, and those bad boys give you 381 horsepower! And for your hauling needs, five different Tundra models can haul over 10,000 pounds, and all have the industry’s largest front brake rotors so you can stop that heavy load in motion if you need to.

Speaking of hauling, the Tundra’s truck beds are over 66” long and 66” wide (50” between the wheel wells), and 22” deep, which is deep enough for a 5-gallon paint bucket to fit under the rails, and wide enough for a sheet of plywood between the wheel wells. The Deck Rail System has four adjustable tie-down cleats to keep everything where you put it, and 2×6 slots that allow you to create three separate cargo areas. The lockable tailgate raises and lowers easily with two fingers, and can be removed so you can roll a ramp right up to the bed for loading and unloading.

But you want some fun stuff, too, right? Add SiriusXM satellite radio and wireless headphones.

To be honest, there are too many Tundra options to list here, so your best bet is to go online. If you’re in the South Louisiana area, head to Team-Toyota.com, the online home of Team Toyota in Baton Rouge. There you can build your Tundra to your specs and schedule a test drive. When you’re ready, friendly, knowledgeable staff will be waiting to help send you home in the Tundra that’s just right for you.
