Toyota Plans 5 Million Cumulative Hybrid Sales, 25% Better Fuel Economy by 2015

Toyota said today it wants to reach cumulative sales of 5 million hybrid vehicles in the mid-part of this decade, reports Reuters News Service. Toyota, the pioneer in gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles, said earlier this month that it had sold more than 2.68 million hybrid vehicles globally since it launched the first model in 1997.  The company also said it would improve its vehicles’ average fuel efficiency in all regions by 25 percent compared with its 2005 levels as part of a five-year environmental plan released today.
