Toyota Marks 3 Millionth Certified Used Vehicle With Check to Owner and Hospital

To celebrate the 3 millionth sale of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles (TCUV), Toyota Division General Manager Bob Carter presented a $22,470 check to buyer Sara Hirshhorn at the Chicago Auto Show today. The check reimbursed the Chicago resident for the purchase of a 2008 Sienna that made her the 3 millionth buyer of a TCUV. Toyota is the first single line manufacturer to achieve this milestone.

Hirshhorn, who traded in a 2002 Hyundai Elantra to become a member of the Toyota family, is a nurse at NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston Hospital near Chicago. Toyota contributed a matching donation of $22,470 to the hospital’s foundation in Hirshhorn’s honor to commemorate the sale.

The TCUV program has enjoyed steady growth since it was launched in 1996. In 2010, the Toyota brand led all makes with record-breaking sales of 315,418 certified used vehicles, up nearly 19 percent from 2009. That success illustrates the confidence customers have in the Toyota brand, with a majority of certified customers returning within 2.5 years to buy another certified used vehicle or a new Toyota.
