Technical Information and Details
All Toyota plants are ISO 14001 “green” certified facilities with technology and processes in place to reduce water and energy use.
Most Toyota plants including Georgetown KY and San Antonio TX are “zero landfill” facilities.
Where possible Toyota utilizes energy from renewable sources. For instance Toyota’s port facilities in Portland derive all of its power from hydroelectric sources.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a 2008 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award to Toyota’s North American manufacturing division, TEMA (Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.). The award was given in recognition of TEMA’s continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
Chosen from more than 9,000 candidates, Sustained Excellence Award winners are a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year.
The TMS Headquarters building in Torrance, CA is the world’s largest “green” building. Photovoltaic power generated on the roof creates enough electricity to power about 500 homes and supplies all of the power to the building. Recycling and xeriscaping saves over 11 million gallons of water per year. The building itself was constructed from 80% recycled materials including steel from old cars.
