Daily Tips – Toyota Core Sedan Tips: 03/23 Engine Construction: Bracketless Accessory Mountings

The 2010 model year brought changes to the Camry that added power, performance, economy and comfort.  Corolla saw active safety improve as the Star™ Safety system became standard equipment on all models and trims.  Avalon continues to represent an exceptional level of comfort and luxury and with a styling change due very soon current incentives have added considerable value to the decision to purchase now.

All Toyota core sedans share a number of common features that give them their reputation for exceptional levels of quality, durability and dependability, and low ownership costs.  We are around these vehicles day in and day out.  We may begin to take a lot of things for granted.

It may be easy to assume that because your Toyota shoppers research heavily before they buy they already know all about these features and their benefits.  That is often not a good assumption.

Through careful needs assessment you can determine what is truly important to your Toyota customers and present valuable information they are not likely to have found elsewhere.  Remember, the sale only occurs when the customer’s perception of value exceeds the price you are asking for the car.

Feature

All Toyota engines feature a bracketless accessory drive mounting system.

Advantage / Function

Engine accessories such as the alternator and air conditioning compressor are mounted directly to the engine block reducing the number of parts to wear and the complexity resulting in improved durability.

Technical Information and Details

In general practice the alternator, A/C compressor, and power steering pumps are secured to the engine block via bolt-on brackets. This allows designers flexibility in accessory placement  and engine compartment space utilization. On Toyota engine blocks however the brackets are cast as part of the block.

Making the accessory brackets part of the engine block eliminates the chances of a bracket coming loose over time.  The design results in a more compact engine overall enhancing serviceability and under hood space utilization.  Reducing the number of added bolts and parts safes weight leading to improved mileage and handling.

Customer Benefit

Toyota owners benefit from increased durability, economy, and performance.
