After Latest Recall, NHTSA Has Closed Its Acceleration Probe Of Toyota

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) chief David Strickland said Thursday that Toyota’s recall of 2.17 million vehicles for floor mat and pedal modifications effectively ends the agency’s investigation of Toyota for reports of unintended acceleration. Strickland said NHTSA reviewed more than 400,000 pages of documents to determine whether the scope of Toyota’s recalls was sufficient. “As a result of the agency’s review, NHTSA asked Toyota to recall these vehicles, and now that the company has done so, our investigation is closed,” he added.
