higher reliability and lower maintenance costs. Because EPS can be
electronically tuned it enhances the driving experience and works with other
safety system.

Technical Information / Extended Description

EPS uses an electric motor to help the driver turn the
steering wheel.

Hydraulic
power steering systems provide high boost at low engine speeds to assistance in
low speed maneuvers, such as parking. At higher engine speeds boost is reduced
giving better road feel and steering control at highway speeds.

Unlike
hydraulic power steering, EPS is continuously variable in its assist providing
just the right power for the situation. Also; it is vehicle speed sensitive vs.
engine speed sensitive.

Camry
EPS is tuned to the “personality” of the car, giving a sportier
steering feel in SE applications, vs. a more luxury-oriented feel in XLE use.
Other applications are likewise tweaked to work with the wheel and tire package
and the intent of the trim level.

Finally, EPS works with the vehicle stability control
system. In an avoidance maneuver or potential skid the VSC applies braking,
moderates engine power and, with EPS, helps steer the vehicle out of danger.
