“Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday”
This old adage was the justification for the “Big 3” to participate in stock car racing in the 1960’s…when the cars actually looked like production stock cars.
A couple of recent occurrences ought to inspire Toyota Sales Pros to take his as seriously now as when it was first proposed:
- A NASCAR Dover clean sweep – Eric Almirola took the checkers with Tundra in Friday’s Camping World Truck Series Race and Kyle Bush won both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races on Saturday and Sunday in Toyota Camrys (http://www.nascar.com/news/)
- On the other side of the Atlantic Toyota the Lexus LFA at the Nordschliefe von der Nurburgring for 24 hours in race conditions (http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100517/OEM/100519864)
You’ll love the quote:
Japanese driver Juichi Wakisaka crashed his LFA on the first day of time trials. He said he was impressed by how durable the car was, because the steering was nearly unaffected by impact.
“Afterward, President Toyoda came to see me and said, ‘Thank you for having this crash,’ ” Wakisaka said. “Because of this, we are able to work on the car and make it safer for customers.”
The obvious conclusion – We learn from occurrences and make improvements in the true spirit of Kaizen.
